DATANA at Europe’s leading DNA data storage conferences
Prague and Paris Recap: Bringing DNA Data Storage Experts Together
In June 2025, DATANA team joined two important European events focused on the future of DNA-based data storage: the EIC DigNA Portfolio Meeting in Prague, followed by the New Trends in DNA-Based Data Storage, DBDS 2025 conference, and the Storage and Computing with DNA 2025 Conference in Paris.

EIC DigNA Portfolio Meeting & The New Trends in DNA-Based Data Storage (DBDS) – Prague
In Prague, the meeting brought together all ongoing EU-funded DNA data storage projects, alongside programme officers and policy leaders. Hosted with the support of EIC Programme Manager Isabel Obieta Vilallonga and Project Officer Carlos Casorrán Amilburu, the event was a valuable opportunity to connect with the broader EIC community.
Highlights for DATANA:
- A panel on commercialization featuring Tomaž Karčnik (BioSistemika & DATANA), Dave Landsman (Western Digital), Robert Grass (ETH Zürich), and Olivier Lauvray (Biomemory)
- Interactive working group sessions between the members of EIC Pathfinder-awarded projects and our team members Tomaž Karčnik, Tjaša Stare, and Rok Luzar

Storage and Computing with DNA Conference – Paris
In Paris, our team, Tomaž Karčnik and Špela Tomaž, joined leading researchers, industry players, and policymakers to explore technical and commercial progress in the field.
It was a pleasure to reconnect with our EIC Pathfinder partner Imagene, whose work on long-term stability standards through the DNA Data Storage Alliance and SNIA continues to set important benchmarks for the industry.
We also had productive conversations with key players such as Catalog, Biomemory, and Western Digital about potential collaboration and how to steer the whole industry towards broader recognition and commercialization.
Both events confirmed:
DNA data storage is no longer a future concept, it’s a rapidly emerging reality. Scientific innovation is accelerating, commercial interest is growing, and cross-sector collaboration is bringing the vision to life.
